I just wanted to make a thread to show a quick comparison I just did at the park with my old Sony G and my new Tamron I just picked up a few nights ago. Both are similar prices, and the Sony wins in reach, but the Tamron definitely stomps it in everything else. I know people aren't crazy about the Sony, whereas the Tamron has been well known for being highly regarded, but owning the I always thought the images were very sharp and it was a pleasure to use.
After comparing some test images though it is clear who the winner is!Descrizioni su calamonaci

Photographers who are shooting with in-camera image stabilization or using a tripod, can reduce the burden of their gear. Moreover, the mm F4.In August of Tamron released an updated version of its mm telephoto zoom lens, with a few notable improvements.
The first and most obvious is the addition of Vibration Control VC technology, to reduce the effect of camera shake and provide sharper images. The lens appears to be completely redesigned, with 4 additional lens elements and a new autofocus system. The lens was designed to fit full-frame film and digital SLR cameras, and on APS-C digital cameras, provides an equivalent field of view of mm Canon or mm Nikon and others.
This lens isn't a "constant" lens, in that as you increase the focal length, both the maximum and minimum aperture sizes decrease.
The following table reflects the change in apertures as you zoom the lens:. Sharpness With the lens mounted on the sub-frame Canon 7D, the lens produced some exceptionally sharp images, more towards the ''wider'' end of 70mm than when zoomed in fully to mm.
Mounted on the full-frame Canon 1Ds Mark III, the lens doesn't betray any secrets - it's just a little bit softer at wide apertures. CA is more noticeable as the lens is stopped down, offering the best performance at mm and mm. Shading ''Vignetting'' Corner shading is virtually non-existent when the lens is mounted on the sub-frame 7D.
On the 1Ds Mark III however, it's a different story: you have to stop down significantly to get images which don't show some kind of light falloff in the corners. At its worst, you're looking at extreme corners which are almost a full stop darker than the center - you see this at mm and mm when used wide open. At 70mm, the distortion is almost negligible - just a slight amount of barrel in the corners. From mm and on, there's significant pincushion distortion in the corners. As usual, this distortion is much more significant when the lens is used on full-frame cameras such as the 1Ds Mark III.
Autofocus Operation Tamron has employed a new focusing system with this lens, the Ultrasonic Silent Drive. The lens focuses very quickly - it takes about one second to go through its focusing range - and it does so nearly silently. The new system allows for full-time manual focusing, allowing the user to adjust autofocus results by simply turning the focusing ring. Focusing operations do not rotate the front element, making life that much easier for polarizer users.
Macro Unfortunately, the new lens design no longer offers the 0. The new lens offers an adequate 0. The lens is significantly larger and heavier for a start, adding an inch to its basic length and 12 ounces to its weight.
No doubt this is a result of adding four new lens elements in three groups, as well as the whole Vibration Control VC system and the new USD focusing system.Civ v cross platform
Despite all these changes it's still light enough to use comfortably without a tripod. The lens features a metal body mount and a smaller filter ring size 62mm instead of 67mm composed of plastic threads. On the Canon and Nikon mounts, there are two control switches on the barrel: one to enable or disable autofocus, and one to enable or disable Vibration Control.
On the Sony mount Vibration Control is not available, because Sony cameras include image stabilization in the body. The lens features a focusing scale in feet and meters in a recessed and windowed scale but does not feature an infrared index or a depth-of-field scale.
The zoom ring is the larger of the two, rubber with long segmented ribs, measuring about two inches wide. The ring takes about ninety degrees to go from 70mm to mm, and does not show any signs of zoom creep. It's nicely cammed and takes only two fingers' worth of force to move it through its zoom range; doing so extends the length of the lens, adding about two inches to its overall length. The focusing ring ends at soft stops at the close-focus and infinity focus points, and will focus past infinity.
The interior of the hood is ribbed to reduce the impact of flare. Our image stabilization test is almost finished for this lens, which advertises four stops of improvement. Each of the lens manufacturers produces a lens in this range, so let's see how they all stack up against each other. Apart from a bit of a price hike, the old lens matches the new for sharpness, and in some cases, betters it. However the new lens offers improved CA tolerance, and less corner shading, as well as the obvious benefits of USD focusing and Vibration Control.
This is a lens where Canon got it right - it meets and exceeds the sharpness performance of the Tamron, shows less CA, and less corner shading as well. Distortion is a bit more noticeable on the Canon; both lenses feature USM style focusing and image stabilization. We haven't had an opportunity yet to test this lens on a full-frame body.Made for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, this lens is very compact and affordable, coming in at more than half the price of the Sony G-Master version.
What are the pros and cons of getting this lens? Read on to find out! Traditionally, the holy trinity consists of a wide-angle lens mma midrange lens mmand a telephoto lens mm. All three of these Tamron lenses complement each other in that they are very affordable, compact in size, and even use the same filter thread size of 67mm. The low cost is probably the most attractive feature. The lens is 5. The Tamron mm also has moisture resistance and weather sealing. This is an autofocus lens with two rubber barrels — one controls focus and the other zooms.
The front part of the lens extends when zoomed in. There is just one minimal locking switch on the lens to keep it from extending when not in use. No other physical buttons or switches are on the lens. The minimum focusing distance is One last thing to mention about this and every Tamron lens is the 6-year warranty for USA residents.
It weighs 1. To keep the lens small, 20mm was shaved from the long end which might be a problem if you really need to be shooting at mm. However, Sony full-frame shooters have the option of shooting in APS-C mode to get a zooming effect roughly mm with the 1. When shooting with a high-resolution camera such as the Sony a7rIV and its 61 megapixels, you also have more megapixels, so cropping is a viable option.
The autofocus performance on this lens is phenomenal. You have access to all of the autofocus features in your Sony E-mount camera including face and eye detect for humans and animals. Autofocus was snappy and accurate when shooting a still or moving subject.
This lens feels just like using a native Sony lens in a much lighter and cheaper body. Like the rest of the lenses in the Tamron holy trinity, the mm is missing image stability built into the lens. While this might seem like a downside, Tamron might be onto something. In practice, the mm shot incredibly stable handheld video, even at mm.
Stills photography was also very sharp and spot-on in every scenario. Photos are tack sharp and crisp with excellent color. Thanks to the lens coating, there is also very little ghosting and flare, even in the most backlit conditions.Tamron says that the lens was "developed with the concept of bringing the joy of easy telephoto shooting to photographers everywhere.Tamron 70-180mm - 5 Reasons to choose it (vs Sony 70-200)
Helpfully, it also features the same 67mm filter diameter as the rest of Tamron's family of full-frame mirrorless lenses, so you can easily swap attachments between your optics. Built specifically with Sony systems in mind, the lens is fully compatible with Sony's Fast Hybrid AF and highly regarded Eye AF systems, making it adaptable to all shooting subjects and scenarios. And the Tamron's RXD stepping motor drive system ensures quick, quiet, high precision autofocus performance.
The Tamron mm is also weather sealed, with moisture-resistant construction, again enabling you to shoot in all manner of situations. And of course, Tamron is also promising "superb optical performance with high image quality and aberration correction", as you would expect of the best telephoto lenses on the market.

Tamron announces a compact $549 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 for Sony E mount cameras
No comments yet Comment from the forums.Riding above the typical mm focal length range found in kit and general purpose lenses, the mm or similar focal length range is extremely popular - easily covering the range I typically recommend to someone interested in a second lens. Note: I don't consider the gap between 55mm and 70mm to be significant.
Either way, the difference between 70mm and mm is very obvious. And the overall range is very useful. Generating a list of uses for a mm lens is a daunting task it includes family life, vacations, landscapes, travel, wildlifebut the relatively narrow aperture typically found in this class of lens removes low light action from its uses list.
Here is a comparison of the aperture step down between the Tamron and some Canon telephoto lens models. Aside from being narrow at the long end, the 's variable max aperture means that manual exposures utilizing a wide open aperture will not stay consistent over the focal length range. Again, this attribute is shared by all lenses in this class. The VC on this lens causes the image in the viewfinder to jump when it activates.
An easily audible though not loud click is heard when the stabilization initiates and again when it terminates. A quiet whirring can be heard while stabilization is active. I find image stabilization to be incredibly useful.Docker openvpn client gateway
Besides allowing sharp handheld shots to be captured at shutter speeds longer than needed without stabilization, image stabilization makes perfect framing much easier. Especially at mm, a motionless viewfinder is extremely helpful in this regard. At 70mm with a wide open aperture, the VC has decent sharpness right into full frame corners the bottom corners show slight softness and shows little improvement when stopped down narrower aperture.
Center of the lens image quality slowly degrades through mm - remaining usable. Stopping down provides only slight improvement in center of the lens sharpness. Corner performance worsens by mm but then holds through mm - remaining reasonable. Again, stopping down provides only slight improvement in sharpness. By mm, this lens delivers poor image quality across the frame except on the far left side of the frame. If you consider this a mm lens, you will be more happy than if you are counting on getting great mm image quality.
Full frame sensor format DSLR users should expect to see between 1. This will be noticeable in certain shots - such as when an evenly-blue sky is in the corner of a frame.
APS-C 1. As usual, a narrower aperture resolves any vignetting issues. Slightly more CA is visible in the left side of the frame than the right. The VC will show some flare if a bright light is in the frame, but the amount of flare is not unusual.
Slight barrel distortion at 70mm quickly changes to modest pincushion distortion at mm. Pincushion distortion increases over the focal length range until becoming moderately strong at mm. Even though this lens does not have a wide aperture, the relatively long mm focal length is still able to create a nice amount of background blur with a relatively close subject.
My first thought is that the words Ultrasonic and Silent are redundant as far as humans are concerned, but The VC's focus speed is not especially fast. Combining a somewhat slow AF speed with a relatively narrow aperture means that this lens is not the best choice for sports photography. The Tamron VC will work best in this regard when shooting a subject that remains a near-constant distance from the camera under a healthy level of daylight. Much more problematic is the inconsistent focus accuracy I'm experiencing from the Tamron VC.
I had to spend a more-than-usual amount of time focus testing this lens - just to confirm what I was seeing. Some shots are focused accurately while backfocusing occurs as frequently as frontfocusing. The bottom line is that even a sharp lens does not deliver sharp subjects if not focused accurately. The lens is very compact for a zoom with this range at 5. It offers a minimum focusing distance of Tamron has been actively developing a lens lineup for Sony E-Mount.
